Beautiful for people.
Legible to machines.

Reportory designs substantial publications for research organisations, consultancies and institutions: rewarding for people to read, semantically structured for accessibility, and easier for software to search, extract and retrieve.

Two readers

Every substantial publication now has two readers.
We design for both.

People

Rewarding to read

Clear structure, expressive typography and precise information design for readers who need to understand, cite and come back to the work.

Machines

Legible to software

Semantic structure, a defined reading order and accessibility-aware production, so screen readers, search indexes and AI tools can find, extract and retrieve what the page says. Tested, not assumed.

For think tanks, research institutes, consultancies, design studios and institutions whose reports are recurring, strategic outputs, not one-off brochures.

02 / What we design

Substance,
beautifully
resolved.

For research institutes, engineering and environmental consultancies, and institutions with something substantial to publish.

01

Flagship research & industry reports

Studies an institution puts its name to: research programmes, industry outlooks, and benchmark assessments, with a clear argument and room for the evidence.

Research reports · Benchmark studies · Industry outlooks
02

Technical studies & engineering reports

Technical and scientific material — methods, measurements, drawings, appendices — organised so a specialist can verify it and a decision-maker can act on it.

Engineering studies · Technical reports · Standards & guidance
03

Environmental & social impact assessments

Documents with a statutory reader and a public one at the same time: baseline, impact, mitigation, and monitoring, each traceable to its source.

Impact assessments · Baseline studies · Monitoring reports
04

Corporate histories & institutional monographs

Anniversary books and commemorative volumes: archive material, oral history, and photography built into a publication meant to last decades.

Anniversary books · Corporate histories · Monographs
05

Commissioned studies & client deliverables

The substantial document that closes an engagement. Produced in your design system or ours, credited or white-label.

Consultancy studies · Audits · White-label production

03 / The approach

From manuscript
to meaningful edition.

01

Understand

We establish the audience, scope, manuscript readiness, responsibilities, and delivery requirements.

02

Structure

We map the editorial architecture and develop the visual direction through representative sample pages.

03

Give form

We build the complete system of text, images, graphics, and navigation. Content questions go back to the authors.

04

Refine & deliver

We coordinate revisions and agreed checks, with content-owner approval and preparation of the final editions.

The right edition for the job.

Print and screen editions, navigable PDFs, and organized source handover. Accessibility requirements, specialist checks, and print coordination are agreed at the start of each commission.

04 / The studio

A close collaborator.
A considered result.

Reportory is the independent editorial design practice of Raphael Albinati.

The practice brings experience in research publications, technical and institutional documents, and substantial reporting to the design of complex, long-form work. Structure and visual character are developed together, with close attention to the material and the people who will use it.

Straight answers
before you write.

What does Reportory design?

Long-form publications that an organisation puts its name to: research and industry reports, technical and engineering studies, environmental and social impact assessments, sustainability reports, white papers, institutional plans and training workbooks. Recent work ranges from a 16-page consultancy white paper to a 354-page certification workbook.

What does “legible to machines” mean for a PDF?

It means the file carries its structure, not just its look: tagged headings, a defined reading order, real tables instead of pictures of tables, alternative text for figures, bookmarks and correct metadata. Screen readers, search indexes and AI tools then read the document in the order a person would, and quote it correctly.

What is the free publication check?

Send the link to your latest publication. We review its structure, reading order and tables, then put ten factual questions about it to three AI tools and score the answers against the text. You get a two-page result at no charge, and we reply within two working days.

How is a project priced?

Most projects are priced per page, with a fixed quote for each edition based on page count, graphic complexity, review rounds and the editions required. Repeat editions inside an existing design system cost less than a first edition. For design studios, overflow production can also be booked by the day.

What do you deliver at the end?

Print-ready files, a screen edition as a navigable, accessible tagged PDF, and organised InDesign source files. Accessibility requirements, specialist checks and print coordination are agreed at the start of each commission.

Do you work with consultancies and design studios?

Yes. Reportory works white-label or credited for consultancies, research teams and design studios, on complete publications or as extra production capacity inside an existing design system. Client communication goes through you unless agreed otherwise.

Which reporting frameworks have you designed for?

Recent work includes a 165-page sustainability document structured on the ESRS, a benchmark assessment of 42 asset managers that charts their adoption of the TNFD, and reports aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals. The design makes the framework visible: disclosure codes, linked indexes and consistent tables.

Who is behind Reportory?

Reportory is the independent editorial design practice of Raphael Albinati. It works in English and Portuguese with organisations in North America, Europe and the Middle East, including WWF, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the City of Dawson and Hofseth.
